Africa by SeasonA Poem by Tom BensonThe wildlife of the dark continent learn to survive, whatever the weatherDark continent it's known, terrain and life diverse. Dry season comes wind blown, the wildlife disperse. Jungles, deserts, plains, rivers, mountains, lakes. Each form of life remains, by doing what it takes. Carnivores eat meat, whilst herbivores eat greens. But challenges each meet, if diet change this means. Large animals migrate, to find a feeding place. Amphibians hibernate, in dry riverbed, no trace … Survival is the key, it's central to all life. A deep felt need to 'be' thus overcoming strife. So when change comes it brings, a lease of life for creatures. And Mother Nature sings, as she changes features … Dark rain-clouds overhead, replacing bright blue sky. New growth in riverbed, where recently was dry. Earth's sandy, dry, cracked crust, now moist it nurtures seeds. Green shoots from surface thrust, from these each creature feeds. Life will now come back, to the Serengeti plain. Of water now no lack, abundance once again. And so the cycle goes, and animals adapt. Instinctively each knows, how the year is mapped. * * * © 2011 Tom BensonAuthor's Note
