From soldier to retailer to writer...

 

My Third Career

 

Left home when I was seventeen,

soldier is what I thought I’d be.

Spent years in service of my Queen,

soldiered years ‘bout twenty three.

 

In my time served far and wide,

saw peace and active service too.

Throughout I did my job with pride,

always did what I had to do.

 

In retail since I left that life,

and now I’m ready for a change.

Told my colleagues and my wife,

time ahead I’d rearrange.

 

Writing is what I’d like to do,

short stories and poetry as well.

I hope my work you’ll all review,

I want to write so I can sell.

 

One thing I think I should make clear,

I’ve used some time to just rehearse.

With Starlitecafe this last year,

my tales so far I’ve done in verse.

 

Now I’m ready to branch out,

so now I’ll also post on here.

I know it’s what we’re all about,

writing’s to be my third career.

 

I’m hoping here I’ll meet new friends,

all persuasions I find good.

No joke, I’m not one who pretends,

and please don’t think me rude.

 

All genre I will try to write,

and poetry now and then.

I write if chance is even slight,

with keyboard or with pen.
