"Let the Bells Toll" The Angelus Broadcast Debate

Atheist Ireland want the angelus stopped on R.T.E., saying it has no place in a modern secular society, and claim that 60 years ago today (18th of August) that Archbishop Mc Quaid had it played.

The fact is, as explained by Father Sean Crombie of Tullamore to Midlands Radio 3 this morning, is that R.T.E. requested permission to broadcast the bells of the Pro- Cathederal in Dublin.

As a side note of intrest, the tradition of the bells started from Crusaders returning from the Holy Land impressed at the Islamic call to prayer.

Be I right or wrong, I think they should be broadcast. Not big into the Jesus Mary and Joseph stuff, still I think its not offensie and not just for Catholics.

~~~~~~ THE POEM ~~~~~~
The bell rings to call to prayer
Or at least maybe to reflect
Symbol from olden times
For which few now have respect
Citing hatred for the clergy
And their now out of date ways
The cover ups and scandals
That grow more as die the days.
In so modern Ireland
For it there is not a place
It’s a practice of a people
Of a church now in disgrace.
In a secular state now
By the Atheists, it is said
That the Angelus daily
At noon and six not be played.
It was brought in by Mc Quaid
That bastion of bigotry
At it offends all others
When its played on R.T.E.
But R.T.E. sought permission
The rights for the bells to play
That’s the facts of history
Regardless what others say.
Brought back by the Crusaders
The Islamic call to prayer
Daily impressed upon them
When out fighting over there.
Bringing back the Angelus
They gave us a gift for all
Not only for Catholics
Does it to pray and reflect, call.
