Death on a Train Track

Death on a Train Track

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

Coming up from Cork, my train was delayed, b not alone one, but two suicides, and this was written quick in response to the first one... http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0704/train.html

"

The train stops and I awaken

In the middle of godforesaken

Piece of country, as a tannoy an annoucement is making

By some foriegn girl of why we have stopped...

No its not leaves upon the line,

At least not so this time

A girl opposite on the phone says "Fine"

As she the reason copped...

Apperantly someone has dead

On the traintrac ahead

A quick prayer for them Ive said

For those who themselves has topped...

Author's Note

Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
Written off the cuff as the news broke on the train... left as is as it captures the emotion of the time...

An honest, compassionate reaction to unexpected tragedy, commensurate with the keen feelings of a poet. I understand the shock to the system and have felt it many times myself, unfortunately.
