To Write: I the Writer the Task For Myself I Set

To Write: I the Writer the Task For Myself I Set

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

The best way to get around writers block is to get a life, I find!!!

"

To write a poem the task I set
But no inspiration came
Not a word or couplet rhyme
Not even a name

To write a story the task I set
But write one I did not
For I could tell no story
And I could plan no plot.

To live the day the task I set
And so I went out drinking
And met and talked and drank, and danced and laughed
And afterward was left with lots for thinking.

And then to writing myself I set
In idle hours before I sleep
And wrote verse and stories to make one smile
And make another weep

For a writer will endure his block
That will always be in his way:
You cannot write if you do not LIVE
You can write another day!!!

This was a wonderful rhyme and lots of meaning, this is a rare combination I read... when reading poetry in general. And you are so right, when we didn't dream words - we shall not try to write - you are right, just wait another day, week or even month... lots of wisdom and beautiful, of an individual specified value, at least to me.

How true is this! Very good work, and food for thought. When the frustration comes from the inevitable block, don't get tied up in a knot, just go out and live. Life's experiences will place the pen in your hand! Love it-going into my favorites!

This set me to laughing! this is a sure and cetain truth sir; that if we do not live life we have nothing to write about but sadder still, nothing to smile and laugh about. I raise my glass to you and this fine bit of verse that brought me a chuckle this morning. Cheers!
