Which is Worse? Isreal or Hamas

Which is Worse? Isreal or Hamas

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

In exasperation at the latest round of voilence, I ask, which is worse, Isreal or Hamas?

"

Isreal or Hames: Which is the Worst?

Above: Logo of Hamas, and an Israeli tank.

They suffered at our hands for ages
Only to inflict the same
On others in their own land
On which they laid claim

But there were those among the natives
From whom nothing else would do
But to wipe out Israel
And the death of every Jew

They claim to love Yahweh, Alla
But I think alas
The distain for God of an aethiest
Is more loving than that of a member of Hamas
Or indeed a Jewish fundamenatlaist
Who sees when he does look
Only what justifies HIS claims
In the pages of the Good Book.

Left: page from the Koran, right: illustration of the Torah, both of the Moslems and Jews respectivly.

If you love God
You dont have to preach hate
God will judge the good and bad
And as each He in time will state...

So, Isreal or Hamas
Each with a bloody thirst
Both preach god and practice evil,
Both and neither are the worst...

Very well done! I've stated the above sentiments on many occasions. I hate war and see it as a pointless, useless waste of time. People slaughter each other for nothing!!! I'm sick, literally, of seeing children murdered, people killed for little more then religion. Both sides of this... "dispute" have claimed to love Allah, God, but none of them are willing to practice the mercy that is shone throughout Holy Writ. No matter which holy book we are referring to, God is merciful. No one seems to remember this very important point and quality of Jehovah. How can people do this? It never ceases to amaze me... the things humans are capable of doing to each other...

wow... I really liked this .. You really summed up the battle between the two and in rhyme. I think that the meter was a little stretched in the stanza just above the second group of pictures. But as I've said many times different people pronounce words differently. I really liked how you showed the amount of difference there is between them.. (not much) and how you clearly state that there isn't a worst one. Clearly they are both equally guilty... Great Job!

UWN - Although the spelling of Israel was incorrect I found this to be the poem I liked the best. Wonderful rhyming choices was one of the reasons I found this appealing. I felt that there was a good dose of clarity and an IMO correct opinion regarding the conflict.

and the devil invented religion to turn paradise into hell
and as of the last observation he seems to have done it quite well

In the absolute, I couldn't agree more with you for; nothing is more sacred than life, in any form. Both sides are abusive of theology and the human devotion related to such theology. However, how can one be absolute when the bloody, chaotic "situation" is relative? What of the good old rule of "cause-effect"?
I raise these questions not in any defense of either side but, since precious human life is at stake and since one is sincerely interested in attaining world peace, one must look into the root cause in order to reach a stable solution, otherwise, we will not see a true end to the tragedy.
I ask, what you would do if you and your family had been forced out of your home not once but, three times, moving from one part of land to another and ending up in a refugee camp within an occupied "strip" which was part of your homeland. I very much doubt that you'll throw peace flowers at your oppressors.
No, I think the "civil"," free" world has much to answer for when it comes to undermining the basic rights of the Palestinian people. The problem with us human beings is that we delude ourselves of immortality and hegemony when we have the upper hand, and justify our immoralities. We never learn from the lessons of history, we stopped reading it, anyway. Great write.

Very nice!! I would add, if you love yourself, then you are able to love others and then you love - what you call God. Brilliant lines: "Both preach god and practice evil, / Both and neither are the worst..." Well the attitude of Merkel is kind of "pro-Israel" I guess, for we have a special guilt from our history. I just feel like Hamas didn't calculate well; what is the point when one side is losing 25 lifes and the other one 500 ?. But of course is the military superiority of Israel visible and always has been! How blind, and tragically not to see. I've read that Obama will try to contact Hamas through agents, a totally different politics than Bush's was. I feel, I feel, that Obama will go into history annals as that president that ended this horrible Arabs / western world conflict, I kind of sense... All what is happening now is written in our history, so where do we start to blame who is right and wrong? What we need is compassion and will to share, that's all we need, methinks. But, who wants seriously to share anything? They pretend so, but not really do they want to do so?! For, that would be the end of capitalism when everybody would love to share...

even handed comment Tomas with which I agree. Each can claim some justification for their actions but both pursue the wrong course No body wins in wars but they can win arguments

Excellent piece, Tomas! Too bad I can't say excellent "peace". : (
Personally, I think we've all gone a bit mad. I still cannot understand the need to slaughter people for the sake of land.
This whole thing really sours me on religion as a whole. Religion.... it's a very strange thing. Supposed to bring people closer to their creators... all I see is DIVISION. Lately I've been thinking we'd be right to ban all religion. Let people find the Gods in themselves and in each other.
Let us seek to not possess or oppress.
I do agree with Moayad, this place is just a mess!!

Thanks for writing this piece. I appreciate the opportunity to not only read a wonderful piece, but to be able to share my opinions on this tragic topic.
Namaste.
