Shadows Arising From the Water

Shadows Arising From the Water

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

Commenting on Monets painting of Westminister.

"

"Houses of Parliment" by Claude Monet

Shadows arising from the water

Neath a smog hidden sun

A painting of the houses of Parliment

From Monet: this is one.

In the smog of political opportunism

That seeps within Westministers walls

A gloomy reflection on the reality

Of the policies from those halls...

From the Tan War in Ireland

To the War on Terror in Iraq

Plot and intuge have been sourced

In the Halls of Attack.

Once upon a time an Emire

From here its subjects were ruled

And that their thinking is none the les imperial today

Let nobody be fooled.

Lets remember David Kelly

An appearant suicide

Who to warn the world of Blairs folly

He heretofor had tried.

A yes, the smog in Westminister is moral

Though its appearance less abrupt

We do not see beyond the spin:

Westminister is corrupt.

This one does not need that much work at all. I liked it and can easily see the message within. We live in troublesome times, my friend. The same corruption that haunts the halls of Westminster also resides in the heart of America. There are so many GREAT people, but the ones that are greedy seem to be grabbing all that they desire. I have a great deal of faith in human nature at large. And I can see the horizon, and it brings great winds of change. Your work here, however, need VERY little change and was VERY enjoyable. Keep up the great work, my friend!!

This a very interesting piece. I love your use of so much information-- it's different in nature from what one would preconceive as "poetry."

Make sure to keep an eye on your rhythm, sometimes it seems to faulter.

Apart from that, this was a great piece.

An interesting piece, could have been written about most if not all places of power, especially in this day and age. Someone wrote in the (19 : 'Behind the doors of greatness sit the weak who talk in riddles, think with their toes (actually another word) and then, quickly grow deaf to the screams of the masses.'

This post results in quite fair satire - that appears to be your genre.. a few spelling mistakes here and there but, an interesting read. Thank you for sharing.

I loved it, and agreed with it, this is a very marvelous piece. The inclusion of the Monet piece gave it a nice beginning, and the political time line set up a perfect structure. This is delicate and yet strong. However, I couldn't help think that the word 'smog' was repeated one two many times? And the rhyme scheme could do with some tweaking. Those two points aside, you have the makings of a brilliant poem here. It was especially interesting for me as I work, attend college and pretty much spend most of my time in Westminster. Its a beautiful and rich place, but it just drips with corruption, especially as little but two miles away, in the areas I live, poverty is rife and crime is immense.
