The Girl and the Ghost

The Girl and the Ghost

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

A girl thinks she sees a ghost...

"

She knew no fear within her heart

Like the fear she felt that night

As the shimmering figure before her dissapeared

She trembled with the fright

And as she slowly moved away

To the direction from where she had come

To leave at peace this being or spirit

That she new not where was from...

Nothing by the spirit was uttered

It just seemed to hang there

There was an eerie silence

And a weird chill in the air

And a feeling one was not welcome

That they did tresspass

And it would not be advisable

This strange spirit to try to pass

Maybe it was a vision

Maybe a trick of the mind

For in shadows deep in the depth of night

Strange shapes one can find

Or maybe it was one passed on

Who long long after their death and their birth

Linger on in agony

To haunt us mortals here on earth.

When I was a little girl there was an old movie that came on television Sunday afternoons. "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," I think it was. A wonderful story about a woman who writes a swash-buckling adventure thanks to the resident of her newly purchased home in the country.

I guess I just naturally hang out in places that spirits inhabit more frequently. Sometimes they must follow me home.

I only wish that I could make them speak and tell me all their stories. Think of the books I could write.

Strange shapes one can find------- this is my favorite part... I thought this was beautifully painted... you ask actually for seeing the answers not on earth but in belief. great writing.

Full of mystery. The poem is full of chilling mysticism. Well done.

chilling - even with the ryhme. I love the old world feel of your poems - your ability to convey the message within the mechanics and yet you lose none of the wow factor of a poem. So often when us so called poets attempt metered poetry - we are stilted....
Well done.
