Rose Among the Weeds

Rose Among the Weeds

A Poem by Tomás Ó Cárthaigh
"

A rose among flowers is beautiful sure, but wild among weeds where least expected and most at home, the rose is at its most beautiful…

"
A rose among flowers is beautiful sure, but wild among weeds where least expected and most at home, the rose is at its most beautiful...

A rose among flowers is beautiful sure, but wild among weeds where least expected and most at home, the rose is at its most beautiful…

I grew up in an English garden
Everything planted by plan, in rows
For effect, pleasing to the eye
To an order understood by those
Who plant such gardens and make fences
To separate from the wild fields
The wild and tame that are both the same
Weeds and flowers equal both the earth willing yields.

She, she grew up in an open meadow
Where wild flowers blow in the breeze
Nurtured by chance, rain, the luck of the soil
Learned each moment to live, to love, to seize
She grew and sought to grow beyond fences
In a common meadow open to all
Browsed by the beast and the passer by
Who as equal to the garden they the meadow call.

I will grow as I know as those before me
Behind fences self erected wire thin
Look out at her meadow in wonder as she grows
Beyond where I have planted, my borders within
I hope some day in the wild meadow
To find her planted, after we both were both seeds
To see her beautiful as she was, is and will be
Blossoming wild, the rose among the weeds.

I like free climbing and long forest. Can find hidden beauty and unknown miracles. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry. Made me wish for the valley of the wild flowers.

An extravagant glimpse of life mingled with metaphors... Yes, freedom or form, and finding beauty growing among the wildness.

Simply wondrous to the senses, Tomás … wonderfully done, Poet!
A suggestion, if you'll not mind: Separate your quatrains so the rhyming will be more evident and enjoyed by your readers … just a suggestion.
Third from last line, too many "both" words … love the fantastic ending!

Thank you so very much for the pleasure of this piece! ⁓ Richard

This is quite nice, the description of the planned garden in its neat and decorous rows, and the wild flowers growing in meadows. A pleasent thought, the lover within the fence, the sweetheart out; someday meeting as seeds together...

love it ... killer ending for sure .. vivid contrasts .. warm and emotive .. wistful as i (a young man) gaze wistfully in longing for the wild that surely threatens my own un-grounding .. well done says i .. lots of care and thought seems to me, to have put into this one!
