Dream

Dream

A Poem by Tom Wade

   Dream

My heart has taught me by experience

Not to wish for things that don't make sense.

There are not very many heroes

In a life controlled by ones and zeros

A victim of technology

Fairly tales were not for me

To keep the system evenhanded

Proof in a lab I demanded

What good are faith and hope to me

In a life where I believe only what I see?

For they are vastly overrated

If they can't be demonstrated

My life was bound by mathematics

Foolish dreams were for fanatics

Shades of gray can not be right

In a land that's only black and white

Logic thus consumed my days

I went on in my foolish ways

Until my child was born...

Now it's foolish thinking that I scorn

In later years I've become so wise

Now much to my surprise

At last I've crossed the breach

I've learned to dream beyond my reach

Your poem is proof that certain events in our lives have the power to transform us. Living in a stuffy world of graphs, binary numbers or mathematical proofs can jade our perception of anything outside that dimension which pertains to fancy or far-out imaginations. But, in fact, we can be catapulted to a place that at one time seemed absurd and perhaps superfluous. It is those times the clouds of our past thoughts are dissipated and we are able to see as never before. Becoming a father has that kind of power. Well done.

Pulling. Very heavy. Very culminating. Makes me a bit weak in the knees and forces me to think about ..a lot. Your ending line/imagery is admirable. I am glad to have read this. You possess smooth talent, as well as strong visuals. & you tie it all into a relative reality. I really dig this one. Good job man.

Nothing like dreaming and reaching far beyond what you think you might be capable of. You might even surprise yourself. Valentine
