Days Of Darkness (2)

Days Of Darkness (2)

A Chapter by Tobin Perry

When Nathaniel woke up after vomiting, all the pain and suffering from the past came suddenly rushing back. The weight he now repossessed was unbearable. His heart tightened at the thought of his life before. He struggled to sit up but when he did his stomach started to contract. With all this pain he couldn’t stand to stay in school. He got out of the bathroom and ran out of school, sprinting through the streets, racing to get home.

Once he got home Nathaniel ran to the bathroom and once again he vomited. He felt disgusting, like a horrible monster. After puking again he went to the medicine cabinet and took some aspirin. He wearily makes his way to the couch where collapses, almost life less he lies there staring at the ceiling.

All the memories start rushing back. The horror. The beatings. The drugs. Laying in silence his mind starts racing with the memories of his father, Jacob. He would always leave every night and go to the bar. Never again would he be seen till the following morning, he always told Nathaniel he was having a sleep over party with his friends.

“Wow. How could I be so naive? Now that I’m older I now know that he went to the bar and drank until his teeth were rotten. I know he didn’t care about my mother, I knew he was cheating the signs were all there. He would tell me, ‘Son Christina needs to sleep, go to your room and be quiet.’ I bet she had a great time ‘sleeping’. I hated that man whenever I told mom that he had a friend over he would beat me. He would drag me into my room as if I was a rag doll and beat me. The next day I would go to school with bruises covering my body cut on my face from the rings on his fingers. Every time I was hit I would start to cry, and then I'd be hit again for acting like a girl. I hated him, I always wanted him out of my life. Much to my surprise i got my wish when he took his car for a ride off of a bridge. I wasn't phased by the death of my father however my mother was broken.

After the death of my father my mother was broken, she was never the same again. She started smoking more and more each day until cigarettes wouldn't satisfy her fix anymore. She started using marijuana, and after a while as that grew old her habits kept escalating until she had found methamphetamine. I almost never saw her while i was a child. She'd lock herself in her room and get high and go on binges. she was never around, she was always out sleeping with random men just so she could get a fix, and when she was actually home she was just a meth-craving b***h. She would hit me just like my father did."

All his life Nathaniel tried to stay excluded from society afraid of how people would see him if they knew about his home life. there was only one exception, Toya. He was special. he didn't know why he just felt that naturally he was more gravitated towards him like there was a mysterious, warm atmosphere around him. For the first time Nathaniel could expose himself. He could let himself be free.

Suddenly Nathaniel had this churning feeling in his stomach almost like it was being tied into a tight knot. No matter how he had lay down it still hurt. He got off the couch and scrambled to the medicine cabinet, he proceeded to take another aspirin. After taking his dose of medicine he returned to the couch laying back, eyes closed, heart slowing down. He let his body succumb to the peace.
