Avoirdupois 2012

A Poem by Tobes

Eons in life
lie between each measured wait
as you weigh me to the ounce
for worth, or whatever else
may be crucial at the moment

Prodigal child
of an only begotten son
pouring family fortunes into wells, wishing
only to be the sun of your dawns--
even unfurling light into starry nights
with a moonful of reflection of my distant glory

Something purely simple
or simply pure, and real
where love doesn't mingle
with equal parts fear and the poison
in the urge to look over my shoulder
and watch over yours

Suddenly blown tumbling
over naked, windswept truth
of being heavy enough to weigh you down
but never tip the scales
to forever.
