![]() The Last MonarchA Story by Tobias Ådin![]() The story of the Last Monarch; of greed, fear, and rebellion. The tale of how the last monarchy fell.![]()
Once upon a time, in a kingdom far away, there lived a queen, so vicious
and evil, that even the hardest of warriors would crack in fear at her
presence.
Rosemary Kingdom was its name, the queen's name long forgotten, but her actions lingering in the minds of many. Her palace was adorned with riches and luxuries, at the expense of the people that she ruled with an iron fist. Forgetting was impossible, for this queen was the last monarch, and she was the most vicious, too. For centuries, the people had been oppressed by monarchy, and now, they had enough. But what could they do? The queen was far too evil, far too powerful, to be brought down. But then came the day, known throughout history as the Rosemary Genocide. The kingdom had long since fallen into decline, as a result of the queen's vanity and lust for power. However, on this day, the Rosemary Genocide, the queen had grown desperate; Her own taste for power had caused her to become paranoid, and she feared the people were going to rebel. To prevent this paranoid image from becoming reality, the queen ordered her vast army to seize all of the people's possessions, and kill anyone in their way. Houses of the people were burned down, voices were silenced, and resources were taken, by force when deemed necessary by the army brutes. A major famine swept over the Rosemary Kingdom, and the inhabitants swiftly diminished, until less than a third of the original population was left. However, despite the lack of resources, the people decided to actually rebel; Late one night, the survivors of the famine attacked the kingdom, their emaciated bodies running on pure willpower, as they ambushed the queen's vast army. And, despite all odds, the army fell, and the queen was alarmed; if her army had fallen, there was no one to protect her. Once the people reached the courtyard, the queen, in a fit of panic, retreated to her bedroom, seeking comfort in her material possessions. They would do her no good now, against an army of rebellious people. It was not long before the people reached her bedroom, and, as quickly as they entered, they left; the queen assassinated, and the palace burned down. Once upon a time, the last monarch fell. She was a queen as vicious as could be, feared by her own loyal subjects. She was assassinated late one night, by the very people she sought to exterminate. With the kingdom fallen, and the queen now dead, there was nothing more to worry about; the pillars of cadavers of which the palace was built upon, the carnage and bloodshed that was the result of the monarchy, was now a thing of the past. As democracy slowly blossomed, the Rosemary Kingdom was slowly forgotten, as generations kept the spirit of true democracy alive. However, the few survivors of the Rosemary Kingdom, survivors of the Rosemary Genocide, vowed to never forget, and never forgive. True equality can never be accomplished as long as hierarchical structures, such as monarchy, remain. Nevertheless; the last monarch is dead, and her reign of terror is a thing of the past...or is it? Forgetting the lessons of history ensures that these atrocities will happen again. So, when your great grandparents tell you about the last monarch, will you just laugh it off as one of their senile moments of confusion, or will you take it to heart, and ensure the end of monarchy? The power is in your hands; use it wisely. © 2017 Tobias Ådin |
