Letting my boot polish dry

Helmets dropping 

Souls dancing 

On the battlefield

As the worms and maggots come out

Creatures of the night, ready to devour

Skin to bone

Bone to naught

A last glimpse of us laughing at the beach..carefree..

As the chatter of gunfire slowly dies around me..

A great piece that epitomizes the feelings of the battlefield...the slight rejection of the need for war, the feeling of death lingering in the air, the smells of bullets whizzing by...and the final outcome, so plaintive.
