A Precocious Writer's Dilemma

A Precocious Writer's Dilemma

A Poem by Tks
"

Something to which all of us can relate to as writers

"
The pen sits in my hand
Snug as a gun
But where to begin?

Should I describe
the wonders of Mother Nature
Should I describe the hustle bustle
Of everyday life
Should I delve into my feelings
My experiences, my escapades, my Sherlock-Holmes stories
Of which I have aplenty
Or do nothing?

My pen rests in my hand
Snug as a gun
To write would be a folly
To return it to it's scabbard
Would mean certain death

Let it go
put it down
and talk out loud everything you want to say
and just like that
your pen will rise and write
burning the pages of life
that you write

So true...it always feels like the words are on the tip of your tongue, but to get them out is so hard. Nice poetry!! Keep writing. =)

That's the way our minds function.
Something we see, learn or experience.
Things both personal and imaginative.
The ideas are endless.

I understand this poem. What I do. When the mind is blank. I read 20-30 poems and stories. Always find something to make me think and write. Nice flow of thoughts in the excellent poetry.

Welcome! And I hope you have a good day too! :)
So true! When my thoughts control my pen, words keep flowing; but when pen rules my thoughts I'm at confusion as what to ink.

Exactly, Deepika! Thank you so much for your kind review, have a good day ahead!
Seamus Heaney's poem "Digging" starts with the lines "Bertween my finger and my thumb/the squat pen rests; snug as a gun" as he describes how he 'digs' with his pen instead of with a spade like his father and grandfather before. There are so many subjects to write about and all we have to do is select and begin the process to see where it leads. Good job!
