I'm Cut Up Like Burroughs

I'm Cut Up Like Burroughs

A Poem by Tkess

Prophylactic film ears

Where do we go with all these fears?

Open jury

Cut enterprise

Capitalist sewer

Politician field mouse

-

Blood suckin'

Money grubbin'

I'm cut up like Burroughs

Politician is a tabloid

Selling the global house to be

-

Avenue warranties

Rorschach money clouds

The minds eye, obscenities

Money and the man

And the Sirens' call

-

Global cooling

For your blind eyes

Mr. Republican man

Steve's back from overseas

-

The whiskey never tasted so sweet

Except when it's in your cup

Mr. Republican man

-

The avenues are bargains galore

With dead men on distant shores

Newsreel cut like republican arrivals

Politics well designed

-

Never rest until

It's enterprise

Measurement

The Saudi's test

-

In a corner drugstore

Protrudes, thirty dollar w****s

Politics well designed

For the fat cat pockets

-

Never mind the starving children

Capitalism for all it's worth

Please, I have other men to please

My money is much better than yours

I don't have time for your foolish jest

And now for something completely different. The cut-up technique was popularized in the 1950's by the writer William S. Burroughs. Basically you take a finished poem, or just some random thoughts, cut the lines into pieces and rearrange them into a new poem. At least that is the long and the short of it. That is how i came up with this poem; random lines and a lot of whiskey. I think I like the way it turned out. Another one of my political ramblings.
