Summer's Lease

Summer's Lease

A Poem by Tkess

Take heed

For the evening comes with wicked teeth

The dawn approaches with shadows too

Across our hearts, and

Across our souls

Forgotten words of your defeat

The summer light,

Like fading love

Or a fleeting kiss, resting

Upon the brow,

Peeking through your windowsill

To fall beside your naked feet

And then silence and stillness

And night, with the universe

Sprawled before our eyes,

And the stars winking to us

A gentle reminder of summer's short lease

For some reason, this poem had my heart beating faster and faster. The thought of summer is very overwhelming! I liked the calmness and shortness of it. It gave me a quick little jolt but thoughts that will last for the night. I especially liked:
"..Sprawled before our eyes,
And the stars winking to us
A gentle reminder of summer's short lease"
Very nice personification there, and a great ending. Loved it! :)
