My Back Pages Read Like The Cliff Notes Of My Life, Before Burning To Ash

A Poem by Tkess

Rollin’ down flaming roads

Head held high through the smoke

Ideas are my map on this journey tonight

Thoughts scream from my skull

Eyes hypnotized by the winding view

Good, bad, I never agreed to these terms

If you’re looking for regret

I’ve got none to display

My sleeves are burning, but not from remorse

My mind in yearning for so much more

This world is big and so awake

But, most people sleepwalk to the dawn

The world is big and so awake

And tonight I refuse to sleep

Cultured pearls before the swine

Dangled like carrots on a string

I’m not the type of dog to sit and beg

Hang that collar on the nail

I am king of all I see, but my kingdom for a voice

To pierce through the winds and the waves

To pierce your battled armor

The moon is bright, but your star is fading
