The Ride

The Ride

A Poem by Tkess
"

A song I wrote for my friend's newgrass band.

"

This road has taken its toll
These painted lines do show
They seem to go on forever
Aberrant doors and smoke filled rooms

You look like the addiction controls you
You look like you need a friend
You made it up to the coast line
Without knowing what to expect

Seasons crash and burn
Will you survive another turn?
Took a break to get this far

Was it worth the heartache it caused?

Ain’t no heroes hiding here
Find yourself somewhere else
The old folksinger still puts it down
Too much habit could be your end

Voice straining a distant fire
D. Tremens and drink filled rooms
The whiskey soaks up the pages
Another case of what might have been

Seasons crash and burn
Will you survive another turn?
Took a break to get this far

Was it worth the heartache it caused?

You never reap half of what you sow
This old life don’t quite add up
You ask yourself what is next
Without really knowing what to expect

Turning tales of temptation
Of lovers who come and gone
I would love to hear your story told
On and on, in an old catalog

Seasons crash and burn
Will you survive another turn?
Took a break to get this far

Was it worth the heartache it caused?
