To Be Young

To Be Young

A Poem by Tkess

Gasoline rainbows

Recede into the drain

Like the lost innocence of youth

We all grow up too fast

Grow into these bodies that

We really never feel comfortable in

Irony is the shackles of youth

The great joke

When we are young we have all the time in the world

But no money

When we are old we have all the money

But no time

It is a cruel, cruel joke

Is it not?

To be constrained by a job

By loans

A car

Responsibility, god

How I hate that word

Unable to do the things we want to do

Because of the air of responsibility

Looming over our heads

Like an ominous dark cloud

To be young again and not have a care

To be young again and not worry

Oh! To be young again

There is such a constraint in the world.. to be something else.. I remember wanting to be grown up when i was young.. do what i please without people telling me what to do.. But yes.. with that comes responsibility.. more than any freedom.. I'm trying to find a way to be young again.. if only within. Powerful write!

"Gasoline rainbows", what a great image- unexpected but I like where you go with this. It is cruel how things flip flop for us as we age and how we become tied to the things that we think we need. I enjoyed your insights here!

To be young again with the wisdom we have now..hmm could be trouble:) I often wonder what would happen "if" we could turn back the clock..to no worries..no cares..
I love the feel of this and think it's a great write..x
