State of the UnionA Poem by TkessMy View of racism in America.
Antiquated thoughts Drip upon the soil Dreams of yesteryear Covered in dirt and dust Forefathers’ ideals Failed to manifest
Destiny dragged Through the streets
Worth is still pressed Upon the skin Instead of realized In the mind
Wars of blue and grey Waged, to what end Tunnel vision Hindsight forbid
Blood pools in the craters Of war-torn thought
Lincoln’s ghost Howls from the Depths of your bones
Harbinger of hate Clings to the mindless
A fall from isolated grace Nothing broken but Promises and bones
A chasm created Walls divide No reason, but Greed or fear
Yet you say it’s alright Our intentions are honorable No malice directed within
You praise from one mouth And debase from the other When will this intolerance end? © 2011 TkessReviews
