In The Shadows

In The Shadows

A Story by Tiffany Elise

The shadows danced around the room as If they were real people, even if they were only figments of the imagination. The room was nothing but darkness, shrowded in darkness and an eeriness that was almost too much to tolerate. Eric looked at the wall and caught a bright red flash of light. Then saw a shadow move. The shadow grabbed a knife and hurled it at the wall, materializing as it shifted through the air, catapulting at Eric. The shadow screeched as Eric dodged it, wondering where it came from.

Then the shadow stepped out of the darkness. Eric took a good look at it, and tilted his head to the side a little as it smiled a devious smile and tilted its head to the right. It pulled the dagger up and held it there. It looked exactly like Eric, except it had bloody red eyes and had blood dripping all down its arm. Still smiling the shadow threw the knife at Eric. Eric dodged it yet again, but this time the shadow was livid. It shrieked and flew towards Eric. It opened its mouth wide, all its teeth now fangs, its eyes now bloodier, its nails now claws, and its hair now fire. Eric screamed as the demon had attacked him. The shadow hissed and then clawed Eric’s neck. Eric screamed but nobody was around to hear his doom. The demon clawed his face harder than his neck, and Eric’s blood pooled on the floor as he screamed. The demon was ready to finish him off, and slit his neck to where all his blood was lost.

Eric’s screaming stopped, now he struggled for a last breath but then lost his life in the darkness. The demon bit down on Eric’s corpse, claiming Eric’s soul within its own. Then it closed its eyes and opened them again. It’s eyes we’re now the color of Eric’s.

The shadow sighed, and then it smiled a deceitful smile…. It then whispered under its breath:
“Let’s enjoy Earth while we can….”

The shadow walked out of the house still smiling evilly. It had taken another soul, and shifted into the soul it had taken. So now it would have fun, on the planet only the naïve would think civil; eventually shaping into a world full of hate, evil and death.
