The Lost World Symphony – Pt 2A Poem by Tinman07...some more from times gone by.You've moved on from going to Brownies and Cubs It's Guides and Scouts that now get your subs. Leave shorts at home or else feel a fool We all know long pants are worn at big school. Lots of your playground games are all done, It's time for some different, new kinds of fun. Gone is the farmer back in his den, Only Mr Wolf will remember just when Oranges and Lemons would ring out the bells, and big ships on the Ally-O would set forth their sails. Knicker-tuck handstands up against the walls and bouncing off bricks with your two rubber balls. Clapping to Pat-a-Cake and My Mother Says. Conkers and hopscotch filling your days Ring-a-ring o'roses, all fall down, then Simon Says you should all turn around. Do you still remember kerby, and French Skipping elastic? In the days when games weren't all made of plastic. Pogo, sticks, hula-hoops, marbles and jacks all came before game cards in newsagent packs Then there were always the latest of crazes Spacehoppers and Choppers and Clackers were phases. Old faithfuls remained like Kiss-Chase and Tag Squeezy bottle water fights, not balloons from a bag. Cat's Cradle or skipping: did you double-dutch? An american thing, never seen here too much Those days are behind us no more will we see, Nostalgia just ain't what it used to be. © 2016 Tinman07 |
