A Chapter by Tina Kline

With a loud exaggerated cry meant to startle the beast and put it off guard, Shannon leaped at the lead bull elk. It let out a wild snort and reared a little in surprise. It leaped forward, trying to avoid Shannon.

“Hey yo!” Shannon yelled as she crashed into the elk, digging the talons at the end of her fingers and toes into the beast's side and hanging on as the bull elk lunged sideways. It stumbled a little but didn't fall. But now it was heading off to the left, away from her human family. The rest of the herd followed their leader. The coyote pack continued to follow but at a short distance now, yipping and making their strange slightly crazy sounding laughing sound.

Shannon swung a leg over the elk's back and settled astride the beast, digging her toe talons in the beast's side to help keep her in place. She clutched at the beast's neck, her finger talons sinking deep. “Hey yo!” she yelled again as she rode the elk toward the far tree line. The coyotes surged forward again, racing around the herd, yapping and growling.

Glancing back Shannon was relieved to see her human family was out of danger from these distorted elk beasts. Kevin came up beside the elk she rode, effortlessly keeping pace. Shannon grinned down at the male vampire.

“Let's take this one out. Blood for us, meat for our human family members.” She called down to him.

Kevin nodded agreement and the attack on the bull elk was on.

This shows in a clear and powerful way the growing love they all have for each other. They provide for each other what all people want, someone to care for them and they are giving that very human need to each other, and the Blood Drinkers do have human like needs here.

A very good chapter. I like the very good ending. Blood for the vampires and food for the humans. A short but very entertaining chapter.
