SixA Chapter by Tina Kline
Just as Shannon met Kevin at the tree line something huge and dark came crashing out. An elk in full antlers. Glen stared in shock. It was an elk from someone's nightmares. He couldn't believe what he was looking at. He wasn't surprised it was altered, just at the sheer horror at the sight of it. It's antlers were silver with jagged tips sharp as razor blades. It's eyes were metallic and pure silver and it's hooves were silver and sharp. It's mouth was open, exposing its pointed tusks and sharp teeth. It threw its head back and made that wild trumpeting sound. “Oh hell!” cried Glen seeing this beast. The animal was huge, much larger than any bull elk he'd ever seen. “What's going on!” asked Jamie, standing in the open doorway. Her face was white with sudden fear and she had a hand pressed over her rapidly beating heart. “All hell's breaking loose.” Glen grabbed Kelley by her upper arm and hauled her toward the porch, dragging Shawn along too. Another elk appeared behind the other, just as frightful as the first. The only difference was it was slightly smaller. It joined the lead elk and lent its trumpeting voice to its fearful calling. Both elk trumpeting together created a sound Glen and Jamie thought sounded like something from hell. “Look!” cried Shawn. “Savage beasts!” His voice held excitement not fear. “I want to see it.” Kelley said. Being stronger now they put up a good struggle trying to escape their grandfather's hold. “Stop it you two! Let's get inside!” Glen yelled, desperate and afraid at his two grandkids desire to see the monsters entering the field around the house. His heart was pounding painfully in his terror. This was the first terrifying experience for them since coming to their farm, in Glen's mind it was their farm now. “Kids!” scolded Jamie. She couldn't believe how monstrous the elks in the field were. She couldn't believe the kids wanted to see them. They needed to get them inside and fast. Shawn broke loose and started running away from the house and toward the monster beasts at the far edge of the field. “Shawn!” bellowed Glen. Jamie screamed, putting both hands to her face. A third bull elk emerged from the tree line. It looked much like the others. It shook its great antlered head and pawed at the earth. The first two elk stopped their trumpeting and started swinging their heads back and forth, looking over the open space before them. They didn't appear to notice the two vampires carefully approaching them, keeping to the shadows and gloom along the tree line.
