Fading

Fading

A Poem by Tina Kline

The sunset was ravishing

all fiery reds, oranges and yellows

flames on the sky

fire on the horizon

she sat upon the hillside

beneath a large silver maple tree

singing songs of times gone by

thinking how dynamic she use to be

but no more

as the tree's leaves were turning from the freshness of green

to the dying colors of autumn

she too was suffering atrophy

and ending to her life

there was no restorative

to return her to her youth

no hope she knew

she only dreamed of something revitalizing

but she had to accept the truth

her time had come and was now going

she was no longer favored

it was over

she watched the amazing sunset

wishing for one moment

society looked upon women of her age

with the same thoughts

as this last show of the day

brought

This is terrific....The way you use your words to describe an older woman who seems to want the same love and passion of a beautiful sunset...Excellent stuff Aurora...Many older people seem to start feeling un-needed in society just for the fact that they can not function the same way that they used to...I love this poem because it seems like it is such a great reference to older people wanting to feel needed again.

Thank you very much!
Excellent poem, love the imagery, and the story of growing old is so relateable.

Aging in a society that only worships youth is a long and painful process as you realize that yes indeed you are becoming old.

I believe that many of us feel this way when beauty starts to drift into something different. There is beauty in youth but there is beauty that runs deeper and outlast time. You see it in people like Audrey Hepburn and many more. Just because there are wrinkles and doesn't mean it isn't beautiful. This poem made me think of that and the use of the leave changing is a great way to look at aging.

Love it, you used the words to tell a sad story of youth to growing old in a most stunning way!

Time change and if we don't go with the flow we end up drowning in the useless misery we create. Excellent words and message.

A very sad situation for women in west. One must be young and thin to be acceptable. Women who do not live up to this ideal are scorn and treated badly. We our a society obsessed with thinness and youth to the point of it being so like a sickness and it does create sickness in some.

Aging is a very sad affair, especially in this society that has a very negative view of the old and an irrational worship of the very young. A sad but excellent poem.

The pain of growing old, its harder on women than men. Men age gracefully and don't lose their sexual appeal in Western Society like women do. It really isn't fair. I like this, good use of the words here.
