The Others Place

The Others Place

A Poem by Tina Kline

A cold silent place
Cold empty blue skies
Beneath ancient autumn trees
Beneath a carpet of autumn leaves
The Dead lie beneath the earth
Unmarked graves in an unmarked cemetery
What brought about this place of death
Where the Dead were buried then just forgotten
Abandoned without remark in a desperate hurry
The soil bleeds with this forgotten battle
One single bullet in a long drawn out war
Was it the American Revolution?
Was it the Civil War?
Does anyone remember them? - The Dead?
They call to me from this silent place
I know the pain that they feel
They say to me I must come soon
I must come - I must do battle too
Soon they say - They will tell me where
Soon they say- They will tell me when
The Battle is coming - I must fight
Another battle - Another day - Another time
A battle to keep at bay the Unending Night

I do remember, a lot of war hero's as my own family battled, but not in America, but in Indonesia this poem makes me remind all what not should be forgotten. Beautifully said dear. With the metaphors, of of the dry autumn leaves make it so real, and paint the whole very transitory and transparent way of the past woven into the future. Thank you xx

There is a sacred silence that sings through your words... took me back to a Civil War battlefield near my home... standing on a place called Bloody Hill... so many had fallen... and their echoed voices called from the ground.. Your words shook those shadows from me again... so powerful.
