Wolf In The Deep Forest

Wolf In The Deep Forest

A Poem by Tina Kline

On a walk through the forest
I felt eyes close by watching me
Who would be way out here in the wilds?
Who would be staring at me so intently?

I turned in a circle looking - seeking
Searching for the owner of those eyes
I saw shadowy movement and caught my breath
What I saw was a real and total surprise

There she was, a wolf standing amongst the trees
Her yellow green eyes focused upon me
I couldn't believe this was even happening
I felt no fear only a wild sense of being free

Her curiosity was contagious
In the long dried grass I slowly sat down
She came closer to me with a wag of her tail
I kept very still not daring to make any sound

I wanted to befriend this beautiful wild animal
I wanted to spend a little time with her
I hoped to bond with her in this wild place
I didn't want this our one and only encounter

Wow, love this. Very impressive. I'd sure welcome such an encounter in the wild with a wolf. They are very beautiful and intelligent creatures and don't deserve to be driven to extinction which our current administration seems to be trying to make happen.
