Wolf In The Deep Forest

Wolf In The Deep Forest

A Poem by Tina Kline

On a walk through the forest
I felt eyes close by watching me
Who would be way out here in the wilds?
Who would be staring at me so intently?

I turned in a circle looking - seeking
Searching for the owner of those eyes
I saw shadowy movement and caught my breath
What I saw was a real and total surprise

There she was, a wolf standing amongst the trees
Her yellow green eyes focused upon me
I couldn't believe this was even happening
I felt no fear only a wild sense of being free

Her curiosity was contagious
In the long dried grass I slowly sat down
She came closer to me with a wag of her tail
I kept very still not daring to make any sound

I wanted to befriend this beautiful wild animal
I wanted to spend a little time with her
I hoped to bond with her in this wild place
I didn't want this our one and only encounter

Wow, love this. Very impressive. I'd sure welcome such an encounter in the wild with a wolf. They are very beautiful and intelligent creatures and don't deserve to be driven to extinction which our current administration seems to be trying to make happen.

What a moment of wilding wonder.. can only imagine the heart racing.. breathing stopped.. You've given us a taste of the world that lies beyond our cities.. the cement.. that world that still runs wild and free. May you melt often into that place.

The wild animals make us wish to know real freedom. It is sad we get locked into a life where we lose the desire to run without fear of tomorrow. I like the story. I have sat with the wild animals in my time. Must be careful. A real wild beast will not be tame and cannot be trusted. A very good ending to a excellent poem. Thank you.

I like this tale of encountering a wolf in the woods. Too bad more people can't see wolves and other wild animals in such a positive light instead of using them for their own enjoyment as in hunting and killing or objects in the way of their profits or as competitors in some way.
