In The Shadows Of Winter

In The Shadows Of Winter

A Poem by Tina Kline

In the shadows of winter

The wolves stalk the night

Hunger twisting in their bellies

Their howls are haunting

A somber warning

That starvation crawls through the forests

The Aurora Borealis dances in the dark sky

Shining colors down upon the snow

The wolves catch the scent of food

Their excited howls travel the freezing air

They move silently on the hunt

Seeking what they need to survive

In the shadows of winter

The struggle to remain alive

Dominates all life here

Winter, the season of death

This barren desolate landscape

Takes many living breaths

The starving wolves succeed this time

But have failed so many times before

The struggle to live continues on

In the shadows of winter

Spring has been gone too long

A powerful piece that can make one really feel the dark, desperation, and chill. "Spring has been gone too long." Indeed. Well done.

An awesome view of wolves in winter, describes excellently in poem form the realities of their lives and winter as a whole. Awesome!
