In The Shadows Of Winter

In The Shadows Of Winter

A Poem by Tina Kline

In the shadows of winter

The wolves stalk the night

Hunger twisting in their bellies

Their howls are haunting

A somber warning

That starvation crawls through the forests

The Aurora Borealis dances in the dark sky

Shining colors down upon the snow

The wolves catch the scent of food

Their excited howls travel the freezing air

They move silently on the hunt

Seeking what they need to survive

In the shadows of winter

The struggle to remain alive

Dominates all life here

Winter, the season of death

This barren desolate landscape

Takes many living breaths

The starving wolves succeed this time

But have failed so many times before

The struggle to live continues on

In the shadows of winter

Spring has been gone too long

Wolves surviving in the wild, giving a view of their struggles. Beauty in winter and cruelty as well. I give this a 100!

I love how you tap into how a wolf feels in the middle of winter when food is scarce. This poem flows very well and the imagery allows picture to dance across my mind.

The elements effect us all and when they don't follow their pattern it can effect living creatures... nicely done in setting the somber scene.
