The Dark Side Of Immortality

The Dark Side Of Immortality

A Poem by Tina Kline

Such desolation

Such despair

She clings to no hope

Standing on the cliff ledge

Her cries rival the cries of the sea birds

Perched upon the rocks all around

The crescent moon hangs low

Just barely touching the ocean’s waters

Rain slashes from the stormy sky

Her long white dress is clingy with damp

She wails out her agony

Then surrenders to defeat

There is no healing for her now

She cannot fling herself into the waves

The dead cannot die a second death

She would survive her suicide

Her tears crimson dark on her pale cheek

She knows she is one of the damned

There is no hope, God does not hear her

She cannot pray for she has been cursed

“I will stay here in the rain for eternity

I will never walk on the earth again”

But she cannot ignore the slow burn within

The thirst for blood blossoming in her now

Soon enough she will surrender to the fire

Blood will become her all consuming desire

It is, after all, the fate of all new born vampires

Awesome poem about someone not happy with their immortality. It doesn't work for everyone. I love this.

This is rather sad. But it stands to reason immortality would weigh heavy on some. I, myself, like to think I'd love it. Anyways, a very well written tragic story in a poem.
