Chapter Ten

Chapter Ten

A Chapter by Tina Kline

Louise, Mr. Black and Mr. Stalker watched several emotions flash across Mr. Redwood’s face. The last one was rage, the one they all had expected and were waiting for. They grew tense as Mr. Redwood’s face shifted slightly to Wolf Form. Much to their disappointment the snow storm hadn’t kept Mr. Redwood away and Mr. Black had allowed his request to visit. Better to get the whole situation over with, Mr. Black had said. Now they had to deal with Mr. Redwood.

Outside the house Mr. Brown, Risinghawk, Michar and Mr. Forest waited, just in case the situation with Mr. Redwood became violent. The storm didn’t bother them at all. They were ready for anything.

“I don’t understand.” Mr. Redwood said in a falsely calm voice. “Miss Starfire has enjoyed my company.”

“I am Miss Starfire’s Wolf Father and my decision stands. Miss Starfire isn’t ready to be Mated.”

    “What about Mr. Thunder?”

“That’s not your concern. That’s Pack Business. As a Pack Leader yourself Mr. Redwood you understand that.” Mr. Black said.

“I won’t accept this.” growled Mr. Redwood. “I want Miss Starfire. I am a Pack Leader; she is a Pack Leader’s Wolf Daughter. I am perfect for her.”

Mr. Black growled. “Accept this. There is nothing here to discuss.”

Mr. Redwood stood up abruptly from his chair, growling. Mr. Black and Mr. Stalker stood too. Louise stood up as well, snarling. Outside Michar, Mr. Forest, Mr. Brown and Risinghawk tensed, ready for battle or at least try to prevent one if Mr. Redwood became violent. “Mr. Redwood, if you try this it won’t go well for you. There won’t be a Pack War or even bad feelings. You do realize the end result of attacking another Pack Leader and the Pack Leader’s Mate.” Mr. Black warned.

Mr. Redwood snarled. “This isn’t the end Mr. Black. I will have your Wolf Daughter when you both get some sense into you.” He turned and left the house, snarling as he did.

Outside Michar, Mr. Forest and Mr. Brown followed discreetly behind him. Risinghawk went into the house.

“Monster!” hissed Louise. “I don’t want him in the Village again!”
“I agree.” said Mr. Stalker. “He’s a danger to Miss Starfire. I’m afraid he will kidnap her and force himself on her.” He looked troubled.

“He’s being followed to make sure he leaves the Village and doesn’t try to hide out somewhere.” Risinghawk said. His radiant green eyes burned with anger.

“What about Miss Fern? She’s from his Pack. If he wants to visit her…?” asked Mr. Stalker.

“He will be refused. I want the guards that are around the edge of the Village to be fully aware Mr. Redwood isn’t allowed to enter under any circumstances. And just in case he tries to slip in undetected make sure they know to keep a full lookout for him. I also want Mr. Stonevalley and Mr. Whitewater to know about my decision and the other Packs as well.” Mr. Black said.

“I’ll inform the guards and see to it the message is sent to the other Pack Leaders.” Mr. Stalker said. He left to do that. Risinghawk looked at Louise and Mr. Black. “Mr. Redwood looked dangerous. I’m afraid there will be trouble.”

“We’ll be waiting and ready.” Mr. Black said. He looked grim.

Risinghawk nodded and left. Louise and Mr. Black looked at each other. They both sighed. Mr. Black pulled her into his arms. “Miss Starfire will be protected if Mr. Redwood refuses to control himself.”

Armand knew he needed to inform Mr. Thunder that Miss Starfire wasn’t going to be his Mate but something held him back. He felt bad about that but just didn’t want to face Mr. Thunder’s anger or bitter disappointment, which ever way he’d go.

I just can’t deal with that, Armand thought, not just yet anyway.

Instead he decided to just enjoy going to the Human World with Mr. Thunder and Quetzal and hunt and kill some humans. They all deserved that fun. Plenty of time afterwards for negative emotions.

Armand, Mr. Thunder and Quetzal left Armand’s house and shape shifted into their Wolf Forms. The snow storm didn’t bother them a bit. In their Wolf Forms they’d be able to move through it with no problem.

Armand in Wolf Form is black with white hair tips and dark brown eyes. Mr. Thunder in his Wolf Form is brown, black and grey with brown eyes and Quetzal in his Wolf Form is tan with black guard hairs with intense yellow eyes.

They leaped about a few minutes yipping excitedly, their bushy tails sweeping back and forth while the wind blew the tiny snowflakes all about them. Then as one they turned and headed through the snow draped Village for the snowy and dark Douglas Fir and bare limbed Broadleaf Maple forest. The snow whipped about them until they reached the shelter of the dark shadowy forest.

Once they reached the forest they stopped for a group howl, singing about the glory and joys of being Wolf. The wind helped to carry their song far and wide. The hunt called strongly to them and they streaked into the shadowy snowy night and headed for the misty Grey Veil that separated the Wolf People World and the Human World.

Miss Starfire and Mr. Hunter sat on the couch staring at their Wolf Parents. Mr. Hunter was smirking and Miss Starfire looked upset.

“Take this seriously Miss Starfire.” Mr. Black said.

“He wouldn’t hurt me.” Miss Starfire said and looked down, having a hard time looking her Wolf Father in the eyes.

Louise sighed. “Deal in reality my Wolf Daughter. Mr. Redwood is off limits. You said yourself you weren’t in love with him so what is the problem?”

Miss Starfire stared at her hands in her lap, not answering.

“Come on Miss Starfire. You don’t want Mr. Redwood or Mr. Thunder. So don’t look so upset. You’ve lost nothing but a little attention.” Mr. Hunter said to her.

“I know.” Miss Starfire said. “Okay Mom and Dad. I’ll keep away from Mr. Redwood if he manages to show up in the Village. What about Mr. Thunder?”

“He won’t threaten you.” Mr. Hunter said.

“I agree.” said Mr. Black. “He won’t be happy but he’s not unreasonable.”

Miss Starfire sighed, feeling disappointed, thinking she was going to miss all the fun she had been having.

She's a bit naive, is she not? She should have her own shackles
raised about Mr. Redwood. He is trouble and will be back, I'm sure.
She had better be on guard. She reminds me of myself back when I
was young and unaware of the dangers lurking. I learned the hard way,
I hope she does not.

Kids... Parent's are at wit's end and up in arms to make sure what's best is done, and the kids just think of it as a game. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Miss Starfire still has a bit of growing up to do if she can't see the danger that Mr. Redwood is. I'd hate for her to have to find out the hard way. Wonder what's going to happen in the Human World besides the death of some humans? I'm sensing something more than that.
