Chapter 2

Chapter 2

A Chapter by Tina Kline
"

Louise and Mr. Black must decide how to deal with this new problem in their lives and the lives of the Wolf People Pack.

"

That news was a major shock. Mr. Black was upset and hearing this I was upset too. I wanted to go after these humans who had invaded my world and killed some of my Wolf People.

“We need to talk after our Wolf Children are in bed.” Mr. Black said.

“Right.” I understood. No need to upset Armand who was the oldest and old enough to understand trouble and would only worry.

Miss Starfire and Mr. Hunter were still too young to even comprehend a little bit. But they’d pick up on our distress easily enough that that would disturb them.

Instead Mr. Black and I waited.

Mr. Black prepared our meal of freshly killed raw bloody meat, cutting it into cubes which he served in a wooden bowl.

Armand was old enough to eat meat now and Mr. Black cut his raw bloody meat into much smaller cubes and served him his meal in a much smaller wooden bowl.

Along with our raw meat we had cold fresh water served in glasses.

The twins still nursed but it wouldn’t be long before they started eating raw meat as well.

Myself, Mr. Black and Armand sat around the kitchen table eating our meal. Armand chatted with his father about his desire for more shapes in wolf form.

Mr. Black listened, giving his Wolf Son his full and total attention.

I smiled watching their interaction, feeling warm and pleased at seeing how much father and son loved and cared for each other. And especially seeing how much Mr. Black cared for and loved his son like he did.

I knew that not all fathers were like that and that included Wolf People fathers as well.

But this new problem took away some of the joy I could have been feeling. This invasion of our world by humans who killed.

I wanted to know more about what had happened but I had to wait.

I watched Armand and Mr. Black and slowly ate my meal.

“I want more shapes Daddy. I want to make our family.” Armand said putting one of the wolf shapes made out of deer antler on the table.

“Well, I believe Uncle Mr. Stalker will be all to glad to do that for you.” Mr. Black said.

“That’s what Mama said.” Armand beamed such a brilliant smile it was like light shone into the room. It was my Wolf Son after all smiling, maybe that influenced my opinion.

But I was smiling at seeing how pleased Armand was knowing he’d have his three wolf shapes soon and that Uncle Mr. Stalker would be pleased to make them for him.

“I need shapes for Mr. Hunter, Miss Starfire and myself. I only have shapes for you and Mama.” Armand told Mr. Black.

“Eat up Armand and we’ll get Uncle Mr. Stalker over here and you can explain exactly what you want to him.” Mr. Black said.

    “Really?” Armand asked.

“Of course. But you must eat your meal.” Mr. Black told him.

I continued to watch them as I finished my meal. I kept one ear focused on the twins. They were sleeping but as soon as they woke they’d be hungry.

I tried to keep my mind off the human invaders but it was difficult. I was sure Mr. Black was thinking of it even as he continued his interaction with Armand.

Then the meal was done. I took a hold of Armand’s hand after he got down off his chair and led him to the front room.

“Is Uncle Mr. Stalker coming now?” Armand asked me as he sat down beside his pile of shapes that were on the floor.

“He’ll be here.” I answered him. I picked the other wolf shape out of the pile of shapes. I held it out to him. “Which is me and which is Daddy?”

Armand grinned and held up the smaller one. “This is you Mama.” Then he held up the larger one after setting the smaller one down. “This is Daddy.”

I clapped my hands. “How clever you are!” I said grinning at him.

That made Armand even happier. I gave him a kiss on the top of his head.

At that moment I heard Mr. Hunter and Miss Starfire stirring.

“I have to go feed your little brother and sister. You stay here and play.” I said to Armand.

    “Okay.” He said.

Mr. Black came out of the kitchen after cleaning up after our meal. “Uncle Mr. Stalker is on his way.” He told Armand.

“Goodie!” Armand said. He couldn’t wait to get more wolf shapes.

I went into the bedroom and took first Miss Starfire out of the wicker baby bed, settled her on my bed then got Mr. Hunter up.

I got comfortable on the bed and nursed them both at the same time, my thoughts once again going to the new problem.

This was the first major problem the Pack had had since Mr. Black had become Pack Leader. I had all the confidence he’d deal with this as swiftly as he could.

Other Packs had lost members to these human killers so to solve this situation our Pack would have to deal with other Wolf People Packs.

This would be my first contact with other Packs of Wolf People. And as Mate to the Pack Leader I knew I’d be playing a major role.

I suddenly felt nervous at this thought. I wondered if I’d be up to it. Would I make Mr. Black proud as his mate or would I shame him? And that applied to the Pack as well. Would I shame them or make them proud as the mate to their Pack Leader?

My role as Mate to the Pack Leader didn’t seem so simple all of a sudden. I was feeling suddenly very overwhelmed by it.

Mr. Black stuck his head into the bedroom. “Mr. Stalker is on the way. Armand is getting sleepy. Once he tells Mr. Stalker about his wanting more wolf shapes I think its bed for him. Then we can talk.”

“Okay. Sounds good.” I said back to him, glad my voice didn’t sound as nervous as I felt.

As I listened to Mr. Black and Armand in the front room I heard Mr. Stalker arrive a few minutes later.

In his excited still childish voice Armand explained what he wanted. I was pleased to hear how kind Mr. Stalker was and how he assured Armand he’d carve the three wolf shapes he wanted.

Mr. Black and Mr. Stalker went into the kitchen to talk for a little while once Armand was satisfied. A sleepy Armand put away his shapes in his wooden chest whining a little bit as he did.

Miss Starfire and Mr. Hunter finally had their fill and I put them back to bed.

After that I got Armand ready for bed and then tucked him in.

I kissed him good night. “Have a restful and peaceful sleep.” I told him. “Goodnight. I love you.”

    “I love you Mama.”

I left Armand’s bedroom and joined Mr. Black in the kitchen. Mr. Stalker had left by then.

It was time for our serious discussion about what had happened and what we as the Wolf People were going to do about it.

I love the family interaction they really are a loving family and it's nice to see that is what it has developed into. Meeting with the other packs makes me think of Ms. Rose who was vanished to another pack I wonder if she will be making another appearance. Really a great start with 2 great chapters.

Intense. I love the relationship that this family has. It makes me think of better times with my own family. It's such a happy beginning with the suspense overshadowing in just the right proportions. Well done.
