Winter's Dark Tidings

A Chapter by Tina Kline
"

An Ann The Vampire story.

"

Tyler, Justin and Julie had quickly figured out how to skillfully fly. They gracefully and easily managed their feathery wings and flew across the chilly night time landscape. Only Sammie hadn't learned to fly gracefully. She still couldn't handle being a vampire.  Ann and Eddie feared they'd be forced to put the new vampire out of her misery.

Tyler taught Julie how to do dog sledding. Justin looked on with some displeasure, fearing he was soon to lose his trapping partner to a female. Julie easily learned how to handle the huskies and how to manage the sled but wasn't much interested in either activity which put Justin's mind to ease on that area.

It was a cold wintery night with a cloudless sky. The aurora borealis spilled its crimson color across the night. They all stood outside staring up at the shifting colors of crimson overhead. Ann loved the Northern Lights, never growing tired of looking at them.   This love had washed off on her two now grown boys.

Julie stared up at the night sky, her brownish feathery wings making rustling sounds, taking in and enjoying the breathtaking light show overhead.

     “Beautiful.” Ann breathed.

“Yes,” agreed Eddie. He was smiling as he watched Ann's excitement. He never grew tired of watching Ann.

“Yeah, cool.” muttered Sammie, she said with a sneer. She was in enough control of herself to join them outside.

“I'm glad you're okay enough right now to join us out here.” Justin said to Sammie, trying to treat her nicely.

Sammie glared a moment at Justin then looked away. She knew he was the one that had drained her life away then left her to die.  They all had meant for her to die. But for some reason they changed their minds and saved her by making her into a vampire. She glanced at all of them, each in turn except Julie who had nothing to do with what had happened to her, her eyes a burning red with her anger and resentment.

Eddie noticed Sammie giving out her angry resentful looks and said to her, “Don't spend so much time on being angry Sammie.  Instead be thankful you still do have life and learn to live it.”

Sammie made a hissing sound, her eyes narrowing.

Eddie let out a sigh. He was growing weary with Sammie and her resentments. That was one vampire we shouldn't have made. Too bad we couldn't have known this in advance. He thought.

Ann felt sad for Sammie a moment then pushed the feeling away. She had 3 new vampires to teach, three vampires who enjoyed their new found immortality and were eager to learn. She looked at Tyler with pride, then Justin. Ann was pleased Julie was embracing being a vampire instead of embracing anger, hate and resentment.

Tyler, Justin, Julie, let's go on a little flying trip. I sense a big snow storm approaching. We won't be able to exercise our wings for a while once the storm hits.”

Okay mom. Sounds good.” Tyler said.

I'm eager to fly.” Julie said.

     Same here.” Justin said.

Ann looked at Eddie, an unspoken request in her eyes.

Eddie nodded, understanding what Ann was asking him with her eyes. “I'll watch Sammie.” He said. He felt sad a moment that he wouldn't be joining Ann and the others once again. Ann felt resentment for Sammie for her nasty behavior which once again meant Eddie had to stay behind and babysit her.

That's not fair!” Tyler said. “Eddie should be with us during our learning.” He stabbed Sammie with his angry stare. “Why don't you stop being such a b***h Sammie. Join our clan or go commit vampire suicide!”

Ann gasped. So did Julie. Justin laughed. Eddie just sighed.

Sammie let out a loud angry screech and launched herself at Tyler, all talons and fangs.

     Oh hell!” Yelled Eddie.

In the next instant everyone was flinging themselves at Sammie. Ann got to her first and pushed her away from Tyler. Sammie landed on the snowy ground, Ann on top of her, holding her in place with force.

You've gone too far, stupid b***h. You going after my son leaves me no choice but to see you dead.” snarled Ann.

Sammie laughed in her face. “See if I care, you creepy vampire what ever creature. I hate what you did to me.”

Tyler, Justin, Eddie and Julie stood around Ann and Sammie, ready if needed.

Oh, how tragic you hate being alive.” Ann said sarcastically.  “Oh, poor baby, we should have let you die. My f*****g apology for saving you!”

Sammie screamed, “So kill me now, alright!”

F**k you, b***h!” Ann screamed and sat upright and snapped Sammie's neck.

Oohhh!” cried Julie, at hearing the disturbing sound of the neck snapping.

     Hey.” Justin said, looking sad.

Tyler just let out a sad sigh.

It had to be done.” stated Eddie.

Ann twisted Sammie's head until it went almost full circle then, with a savage and powerful yank, ripped her head off of her body.

The huskies in their kennel yard started barking and yapping loudly in excitement.

Ann stood up holding the head by its hair.“Yuk.” Ann said. “This is gross.”

We'll burn the body and head separately. She's out of her misery now.” Eddie said.

Eddie knew he wasn't going to be missing Sammie. None of them would. She had been too much trouble with her hate and resentment. He already felt relief knowing she was forever gone from their lives. A bad mistake they finally corrected.

You can come with us now Eddie.” Tyler said happily.

Yes I can.” Eddie agreed and found he was truly happy about that. He went and took the head from Ann and scooped up the dead body. “I'll take care of this unpleasantness. Too bad for Sammie.”

We'll fly later, once we're done with finishing up with Sammie's remains. We have some time for flying before the storm hits.” Ann said.

Okay mom.” Tyler understood and put his arm around her shoulders. “You only did what you had to do.”

Yes Ann.” Julie agreed. “Sammie was only causing disruptions in all our lives.”

That's true.” answered Ann. “We'll all be happier for her being out of our lives forever.”
