Her Destiny

Her Destiny

A Poem by Tina Kline

Femininity was her prize

golden haired

a falcon at her side

abandoned and seeking shelter

hoping for something better

she, her horse and her falcon

rode slowly across the sunny meadow

heat radiating skyward

tears in her blue eyes

her falcon cried into the winds

her piercing voice ferocious

how provocative for her

as she rode into the valley

meaning to use her female charms

when she'd never had to before

fear ate at her but she'd not surrender

blue eyes forward calling on her strength

she eyed the factory hung in the distance

black smoke swirling from many chimneys

black clouds dominating the skyline

determined she rode onward

certain femininity was her ticket out

her smile faded as she approached

the moment was fluid now

she had to be brave

she had to keep her pride

and she continued onward

hoping her femininity

won her a better destiny

Love the imagery and tale in this outstanding poem. You get the feel she is determined to improve her life and isn't above using her femaleness as a lure. The falcon gives the impressive of her strength to survive and do what she must. I can't help wonder what put her in her fragile situation but that just adds to the mystery. Excellent poem.

TONS of wasted words here. All I see is: her, her, her, she, she, she, femininity, femininity. The poetic equivalent to a cloud or a bead-curtain; you just walk right through it. I think it's our artistic duty as poets to provide at least a few memorable moments, regardless of talent level. Wouldn't you agree?

Regards,

S

I don't see that which you speak of in your writing. You ought to practice what you preach.
What I really like here is the visuality, this is very photographic, an image from a film,
an excellently well captured cameo, well written, good job.

Thanks very much!
I like this. It sounds like an 19th century tale.

There's a very intense story in this. I enjoyed it. I can't help but hope for a positive ending to her tale.

Awesome poem! Telling the tale so many women have faced over the centrists, using their female charms and body to gain a living or a better position in life. This tale has an otherworldly enchantment to it that I like.
