we have made it

the demons that have possessed us
the scary dreams that have brought us to life
we have each other because we're scared to be alone
we started 10 years ago
and now look at what we've become
something no one can repeat
we have history
we have a bond that can not be broken
10 years ago we were beginning
a life where we were lost
now we're adults and we're still silly and childish
but no one can call us lazy

I am coming up on my 10 year wedding anniversary this year. These words resonate with me. Especially the silly part, which may be the secret weapon to fight off all of the little slights and unspoken grudges. When someone can make you laugh (like you did when you were 15 years old), it fills your heart in a way that mends. My wife says the dumbest s**t to make me laugh. It honestly would be embarrassing if anyone else heard, but she does it specifically to make ME laugh. It's a gift really. It's something I get that no one else does. When we gift ourselves to each other, when we never stop serving the relationship, we get the chance to keep going. We get to see how far the road stretches into the sunset.
