Never Here

Never Here

A Poem by T L Barnes

Come with me

I want you to see what I see.

I’ll show you visions that will only reach your mind,

It’s not your time yet.

On a breezy August morning

You saw the sea;

Kissing the shore with tender simplicity,

And I hope you understand.

I wish I could hold your hand.

In the afternoon we drove,

Followed the road to Eden.

You heard birds and African drums,

You laughed at the balloon man.

And I hope you understand.

I wish I could hold your hand.

Some people let you down in life

And decisions must be made.

No acceptance of responsibility,

Someone has to take the blame.

Someone has to play the game.

I remember a few days later

We climbed up a mountainside.

I knew you’d love the waterfalls

As they cascaded down the sides.

I helped you cross a wooden bridge,

And we jumped across the rocks.

The sun came out in the clearing

And the landscape shone for us.

Please try to understand.

I wish I’d have held your hand.

One week later and you were gone.

As if you’d never been there, I was alone.

I tried to do the best by you,

Give you a taste of life,

And I hope that you’ll come back to me

When everything feels right.
