EpilogueA Chapter by Tina BeeI finished with school at the end of May and celebrated by asking mom to go on a walk with Liam and I around the neighborhood. It'd been a long time since we had any mother and daughter time.
Once around the block away from anyone who would know us by name mom told me what had been on her mind.
"I know there's no way Langston can be his father," mom blurted without looking at me.
"He's not," I told her trying to make eye contact.
"Then who is?" mom asked, cringing as the words slipped out of her mouth.
"I think we both know," I said refusing to say his name.
"He's married now, he'll never take Liam on as his own, there's too much for him to lose," mom said as if I didn't know that already.
"Never say never," was my response and two little boys ran passed us.
"Don't do that, don't hold onto hope when there is none. You'll turn into a bitter old woman who can't deal with reality," Mom said in a pleading voice.
We kept walking and I kept pushing the stroller until we made it back home. The sun was shining so brightly down on us that this whole scene seemed ethereal. That's when I said my peace:
"I won't ever be like you, mom. I'm going to win Greg back. Even if it's the last thing I do." © 2009 Tina BeeReviews
