Ch. 13: Just Chill

Ch. 13: Just Chill

A Chapter by Tina Bee
"

Myra and her brother Sonny in the race for their lives.

"

I almost lost a flip flop as Sonny opened up the back seat for me and threw me in. By now we had caught the attention of some local shoppers in the parking lot. Some of them were looking to see what all the fuss was about. Carlos immediately sat down in the front passengers side seat and opened up the glove compartment. Inside of it was a magnum .357 that had a silencers attached to it.

"Oh my God!" I screamed.

"Hey shut her up, man!" Carlos yelled at Sonny.

"Shut up and stay down!" Sonny yelled at me.

My cell phone started ringing and I scrambled through my purse to get it. I answered on the fourth ring.

"Hello?" I said.

"Hey honey I'm almost done over here so I'll see you in ten minutes," Mom said.

"No that's ok Sonny's giving me a ride," I said.

"Aww s**t she's squealing on you," Carlos said.

"What?" Mom asked.

"Yea he borrowed Kevin's car and came to get me," I lied.

"Well ok, but tell him to take you straight home and no horsing around," Mom said.

"Ok, bye," I said hanging up just as Sonny threw the car into reverse and slammed onto the accelerator and the tires for sure left black marks on the pavement.

"We gotta lose them," Sonny said.

"They're looking for you man, I told you not to mess with that b***h man I told you," Carlos said.

I stayed down as we jerked to the right and the to the left and then I knew we were on the main street headed toward the freeway. I could hear tire screeches behind us and people blowing there horns.

"Don't get onto the freeway man they'll get us," Carlos said.

Sonny twisted the wheel in a circular motion and we hit a curb. I was violently thrown toward the backseat door and I held onto the door handle for dear life.

Suddenly I heard pings. I knew we were being shot at.

"S**t man!" Carlos said rolling his window down and aiming the gun at the car behind us.

I saw him squeezing off shots, but since there was a silencer I couldn't hear them.

Carlos sat back down in the car.

"I think you got one of their tires," Sonny said.

"Yea the m**********r's slowing down," Carlos said.

"I'm gonna have to ditch this car," Sonny said.

"Maybe not homes, just paint it over. Manuel can do that for you," Carlos said.

"Yea call that n***a up I need it done right now," Sonny said.

Carlos got his phone out and started dialing. Soon he was speaking Spanish, a language I hadn't mastered yet.

"Can I sit up now?" I asked.

"Yea," Sonny said.

I sat up and saw we were headed through a residential neighborhood. Kids were playing in there yards with water hoses and baby pools. I longed for the simple days again.

"He says come over now," Carlos said hanging up.

"I can't I have to drop my sister off," Sonny said.

"That's not a good idea. If they find out where you live they'll shoot it up and that will be easier to do if your car is sitting in the driveway," Carlos said.

"So we gotta bring her," Sonny said.

"Yea," Carlos said.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"Just chill," Sonny said.

"I can't I have a date tonight!" I screamed.

"It won't be that long," Sonny said.

"No probably not. Manuel works fast," Carlos said.

I'm not sure if this was Sonny's first shoot out. I know that as he's gotten older he's been involved in more and more heavier gang bullshit. Last year mom's old car was set on fire in our driveway. Mike told me it was a warning from some of Sonny's rivals. That had been the full extent of it because Sonny had 'taken care' of the people who did it. I didn't know how and now I knew I didn't want to know.

That was a wild, exciting ride. A really good chapter. Glad
Myra made it through. But will she make her date? Should she?
