Ch 5: MotherA Chapter by Tina BeeWarning? Warning? What was getting into the girls around this city? Suddenly I needed their help. Suddenly I couldn't watch out for myself. Incredible. I went to my bed to rest. I wasn't completely thinking when something started licking my face so I sat up and almost screamed. Mom was at my door smiling while some dog slobbered on me.
"Do you like him?" Mom asked.
"I'd like if he got off of me," I said petting the dog and laughing.
"Come here, Buster," Mom cooed and the dog jumped off of me and went to her.
"Buster?" I asked.
"Yea I was lying on the couch this afternoon and thought 'hey you know what I could use: a dog' so I looked in the paper to see who was selling and found Buster," Mom said.
"What kind of dog is he?" I asked.
"Pomeranian. He has to go to the groomers once every 2 weeks so I'll definitely have stuff to do while you kids are in school," Mom said.
"He's just a puppy. How much was he?" I asked.
"Four hundred down, but I had some extra cash lying around. Do you want to come with us to the pet store to pick him up a bed and some food bowls?" Mom asked.
"Sure," I said hopping up.
"Turn down that music. You didn't even hear me knock," Mom said.
Mom was a character. She had blond hair and huge blue eyes. She had a fine nose and plump lips that were always rosy even without lipstick. She drove an expensive car, bought expensive things, ate at expensive restaurants, went to expensive spas to get her nails, feet, and hair done, had an expensive personal trainer, and mostly Mom was just expensive.
No one in a million years would ever guess that we were related. I didn't look anything like her, but everyday she assured me: I was her daughter.
"When you were born all the nurses commented on your curly black hair and your eyes were instantly an intense brown. Your skin was red at first, but I was told you'd get darker. Boy were they right" Mom said.
Mom tried to get me to do the mother-daughter start she and her friends did with their kids, but I always ended up pissed off at the end. One time a girl accused me of being some charity case mom had picked up. I socked her dead in the face and her mom was furious.
"Buster has a carrier in the backseat that the lady I bought him from gave me. Remind me to get him a collar and some dog tags," Mom said.
"Ok," I said getting in the car and buckling up.
"So how was your day?" Mom asked.
"Swell," I said while changing the radio station.
"No rap please," Mom begged, but I turned it to rap anyways.
"Did you talk to that surgeon?" I asked.
"Yea he doesn't recommend plastic surgery, but I opted for botox under my eyes," Mom said.
"Oh," I said.
"Why are you so glum?" Mom asked.
"It's about this guy," I started.
"Oh, stop there. Are you thinking about having sex? Because if you are you can tell me Myra. I won't judge," Mom said.
"Oh it's not even like that," I said.
"Ok," Mom said.
"Well some girls at school are trying to warn me about him and even Daisy and I aren't speaking now because of him," I explained.
"Friends are such a drag mostly out of jealousy. It's a proven fact," Mom said.
"I don't think Daisy is jealous," I said.
"I've seen her. She's ugly. She doesn't have a body or face that could match yours and I doubt any boy is willing to date her openly," Mom said.
I said nothing. Buster was fidgeting in the back and making whimpering noises.
"He's hungry," I said.
"Oh yea remind me to get some dog food too," Mom said and got onto the freeway.
