Ch. 3: It's Hot In HereA Chapter by Tina BeeWhen I got inside I went upstairs to charge my cell phone and hop into the shower. It was so hot outside my clothes were sticking to my back. After I got out I stared into the bathroom mirror at all my changes. I had stretch marks here and there and hair there and here. My naked body embarrassed me and I quickly put on my rob and went to change into shorts and white tee shirt.
Just as I got downstairs and was walking to the kitchen the doorbell rang. I went to get it.
"Hi Greg" I said.
Gregory Finster, Greg, was this neighbor boy who went to a different high school across town that got out the same time my school did. He was just a sophomore. We had lived in this house for seven years now and when I was younger Greg and I used to spend hours playing together with the other kids outside.
"Hey Myra, I saw you walk in and thought I'd stop by to hang out" Greg said enthusiastically.
"Uh, sure come in" I said.
The heat from outside was making my face hot and I didn't like being so rude to Greg even though lately he was annoying me to no end.
"How was your last day?" Greg asked.
"It was ok" I said walking to the kitchen and Greg followed me like a baby chick.
"Was that Rick Santos' car that dropped you off?" Greg asked.
"Yea he took me to eat, but now I'm hungry again" I said opening the fridge.
Greg sat at the kitchen table as I prepared us some sandwiches.
"Why'd he do that?" Greg asked and even though I wasn't looking at him I knew he was jealous.
"I asked him to" I lied.
"We could've gone up the street to Burger City together like we used to. You didn't have to ask Rick for that"Greg said.
"Oh I know, but Rick has a car and it's so hot I didn't want to walk all the way home and then walk to eat" I complained.
Greg was silent. I kept making the sandwich and tossed him a single capri-sun that mom had bought last night.
"Thanks" Greg said.
As I made the food I could feel Greg's eyes glued to my every move.
"Ok now you're annoying me. Quit watching me!" I barked.
"I'm sorry you're just so..." Greg started to say.
"So beautiful, so magnificent, so breath taking, yea, yea, yea" I finished.
"Sorry" Greg said and he started sucking on the capri-sun straw.
"I get really tired of guys only looking and talking to me because of the way I look. I'm more than a pretty face" I said.
"I know" Greg agreed.
"How was your day at school?" I asked changing the subject.
"Great. Next year I'll be a junior and then a senior. I'll be leaving for college on the east coast you know" Greg said.
"You're going to Columbia?" I asked.
"Yea" Greg said.
Ever since I had known Greg Columbia was the only University he ever talked about. His dad had gone there and all of his older siblings set their sights on Columbia also.
"Donald was accepted. He's leaving in July" Greg said.
"That's cool" I said with my face lighting up.
Donald was the hotter version of Greg. He had thick brown hair and hazel eyes to die for. His parents had recently bought him his own car for his high school graduation. He never paid attention to me and I'd really wanted a ride in it.
"Yea well dad got him in. His grades stunk. I won't need that kind of help. I'm a straight A student" Greg said growing grim again.
"You're a genius Greg, you won't need any help getting into those snobby upscale Universities. You can do anything you set your mind to" I said taking the plate into the living room to watch TV.
Greg followed.
"Thanks" Greg said and I flipped on the TV.
We had a big screen with a satellite dish. Greg's parents believed in only basic cable and had been that way for years. He used to come over on the premises of me Kevin tutoring him for English, but all we'd really be doing was watching some gory movie or TV show.
"Television rots your brain" I recited to Greg something that his mom always said whenever I went over.
"Thanks mom" Greg said.
We sat and watched for an hour until Sonny burst into the door with three of his friends and a couple of girls.
"What's going on here?" Sonny asked.
"Nothing" I said.
"Looks like you jumped away from Greg...you two getting it on?" Sonny asked and his friends laughed.
"Oh please Sonny grow up" I said because Greg was turning red.
They were still laughing as Sonny led them up to his room to do God knows what. Our house had five bedrooms and three bathrooms. Mom made sure I had my own bathroom and bedroom. She told me stories about having to share with her siblings and she hated it.
The boys didn't care about sharing and there's was always kept messy. Mom usually ordered Sonny to clean it once a week which he never did.
"He's a jerk" Greg said once Sonny's room door closed.
"You don't have to tell me twice, but Greg you need to stand up to him. You're older" I said.
"I know, but Sonny was always picking on me and making junior high hell for me" Greg said.
Those were bad times when Sonny had started running with this local Mexican gang. Greg was a purebred white boy who was smart and they all hated him. He became their focal point of torture. Why he bothered coming to my house still I'd never know.
"Oh Greggy!" I exclaimed and let my head fall into his lap.
I was still laughing when Greg jumped up. His face was redder than before.
"Oh look it's almost five, I've got to be going. Donald is taking me and Steven out to dinner. I'll see you later" Greg said and bolted for the door.
"Hey Greg!" Mike said and Greg almost knocked him over.
"Bye!" I heard Greg shout.
"What in the hell is wrong with that kid?" Mike asked.
"I don't know. Ants in his pants" I said.
