On my Search for the Meaning of LifeA Chapter by Timothy G. BrittonOn my Search
for the Meaning of Life On my Search
for the Meaning of Life
In
search for answers what I have come to find is, if I were to ask one hundred
different people what the meaning of life was, I would get one hundred
different answers. Many of which would simply answer in the direction that life
has no meaning. It seems quite the easy answer, but I have put up the
fight in refusing to believe this, to accept this but that does not mean that I
am right. It seems that no matter how hard I try to be an example in
showing, that life does have meaning, order, and direction and, and most
of all, purpose, I will fully admit that following this road is sometimes the
hardest thing in my life to do. I have watched as so many people around me produce
stronger evidence that life is nothing more than chaos, no matter what you
do. I admit that sometimes it really gets hard not to just accept that as
the truth. But what I see through my eyes is those very same people unaware
that they are striving to walk the same path as do we all, in looking for,
reaching for and wishing for meaning to our life, answers to the meaning of our
lives. Those who are aware of and admit to our quest, along the way meet more
and more people who are wishing for and wanting the same things that you are.
An understanding to a better way of life, a life with meaning, a life with
purpose, a life that makes sense. Along this quest, I have found so many that
clearly are here to help each other find our way.
As I have become more and more witness to this, aware
of this, I found answers to what really seems to be going on. At times I feel
as though this belief in, search for, quest for understanding life with
meaning, and the meaning behind life, has brought so many of us together, who
needed not to be alone in their search of the very same things. They
needed, were also in search of direction, support, and friendship, and along
their way, on their journey, on their search for answers they found it and in
this taking place I have witnessed a very big part of the meaning behind life.
A world of strangers finding a comfort, a unity, becoming friends, based on the
way they choose to look at life, at their lives.
So many times, I have seen where this leads to a
better acceptance of happiness, fulfillment, and pleasure into their lives. The
meaning of life. The struggle I face with this answer is that I come to find or
realize that this is only temporary. I come to realize the people will
eventually fall right back into their depression, the darkness, the misery, and
blindness that I thought that they were trying to escape from. Instead, I come
to question if they were merely clinging to a place that allowed them to ignore
or deny the problems in their life, for only a temporary amount of time. Not at
all truly trying to overcome their challenges, only trying to hide from them.
Living a life without meaning.
I live in a world where people are
learning to walk together, instead of a world where everyone continues going
separate ways. A world of chaos, no control, and no hope, truly no
meaning. How disappointing it sometimes is to think I find someone who sees
things the same as I do, and then finding out I was only seeing what I chose to
see, and believing what I chose to believe, finding myself once again asking if
life truly does have meaning. The same words that I have heard a thousand
times from people I thought were fools, realizing myself how easy it is to lose
sight of that meaning of life I once saw so clearly and instead finding it
easier to just live life day by day. Living on the balance of life with meaning
or no meaning, waiting for something to show me the way once again.
