DRAGON QUEST

DRAGON QUEST

A Chapter by Timothy G. Britton

 Upon an awesome quest through the land of magic and mystery;

You'll never find such a place of wonder in all the pages of history.

 The flashing of colors above me in the raging of a storm;

 Shadows of mountains before me, dancing in terrifying form.

 As I seek out a savage beast of magnificent power;

 My hand grips my sword for the crystal warns me it will be this hour.

 To conquer this beast was this mystic crystal all I would need;

 For if it wasn't there would be no question of on what this mighty monster would feed.

 With each negative thought my weapon grew cold in my hand;

 So, I refused all of my doubts and allowed my soul to become part of this mystical land.

 High upon a mountain edge, I shivered, when suddenly I felt a warm gust of air;

 I knew without a doubt that in the distance below me was the dragon’s lair.

 With one careless step, I was hurled far below to the ground,

 The creature of which I had searched, now had I found.

 The beast before me was one of which many legends are told;

 I stood there silent as I watched the dragon’s enormous wings unfold.

 With a sudden burst he bolts so high;

 Every detail could be seen with every flash of the stormy sky.

 Hovering above me perfectly within my view;

 My eyes locked upon him, my sword overhead, I could see every scale, green, purple and blue.

 At the rear of my weapon the crystal glows so bright;

 And the gleam of his eyes, finally we would fight.

 With a thrust of his wing came a blow so fierce;

 A swift move of my blade, the dragon’s breast I did pierce.

 The pain must have been great for the beast did retreat;

 Giving my injured self a chance to get to my feet.

 Upon a nearby ledge he sat, eyes fixed upon mine, into my soul he stared;

 All at once did we realize, it was man against beast, but the same brave soul we shared.

 I steadied my stance, as he moves in for his next attack;

 Stood there amazed for the creature lied down allowing me to climb upon its back.

 Upon this mighty monster I sat, my mind in a daze;

 With a flap of its enormous wings, we disappeared in a fiery blaze...!
