Our Life is Our Own

Our Life is Our Own

A Chapter by Timothy G. Britton

More and more it seems as though people are just giving up on life, as though there is no hope for a better tomorrow, no possibilities of a better future. So many people seem to be living each new day the same as the last as if there's no point in even trying to change things until life truly does become meaningless. Then it's life itself we have to blame for our suffering. We push the blame elsewhere as an answer in not accepting the blame for the struggles we face day to day. We have become too blind to see that pushing the blame only adds to all the stress and anger that we have already allowed into our lives.

It's our blindness and denial that is to blame for our grief, misery, and depression.  Our own disregard for denying that we ourselves have control over whatever it is that is creating the anxiety and stresses that we feel in our lives. We must accept responsibility towards the downfalls in our lives and stop pushing the blame elsewhere because no one else will ever accept it. We must figure out what we want out of our lives and do the very best to make it happen, never giving up.  Learning that every time we get knocked down where the mistakes were made and how to avoid them the next time.  Therefore, getting stronger instead of weaker. Then we will find that life is not as hard as we made it appear, we just weren't trying hard enough, if even at all.

Deep inside we know that we have the control for changing things in our lives.  Only we ourselves can figure out what it is that needs to change and what it is that will bring happiness to our world.  Knowing what happiness is and what it truly feels like is the first thing it will take to recognize the value of making the changes needed in order to reach that happiness. Once we see that every step forward we choose to make takes us another step away from where we stood yesterday feeling helpless and alone. Once we see that it is within us to bring about those changes by taking the steps to make those changes then things start falling into place far more easily than ever before.

As we start gaining answers towards our happiness we will find ourself reaching out to help others see and understand the answers we've come to find.  Through doing this we will find a joy and meaning in our life that was not there before. Soon after we will find that those trials of learning, become pleasures of teaching.

Life is about growing through learning.  Life is an adventure for us to explore and find understanding.  Life is what we make of it and good or bad it is ourselves we have to thank or blame.  It is really not that hard to find happiness in our life, just do it.  It's truly simple, just be happy, no matter how bad life seems at times, know it will once again pass. How long that takes are in our hands, misery holds no value we can gain from, happiness always very much does. You deserve what choosing happiness can bring you and so do the people around you.

Remember that it’s easy to hate, be angry, and miserable but it takes special strength to care, be understanding and happy.  The choice is completely our own.  No one else has the power to give it or take it from you.  Our life is a journey, and it is up to you to choose the road you follow.  Our destiny is our own to choose.  So choose.

Author's Note

Timothy G. Britton
This is a writing from my younger days, years back... so please forgive any mistakes, typos, or corrections needed. I wanted to share this because this is pretty much where my philosophical writing kicked in.

I was a pretty wise young man if I do say so myself. :)
