When I Open My Eyes

When I Open My Eyes

A Poem by Timothy

When I open my eyes, do you know what I see
I see you and me, the way it used to be, before you went away
I stumble into the hall, empty with hurt, full of alcohol
Five day shave hasn't been, why can I never win
I guess god wants it this way, I guess you just couldn't stay
Why must I live with this pain

When I open my eyes, do you know what I see
I see blood on my hands, I see what's left of a man
After his life slipped away
These streets are dark, they're cold, I'm looking too old
To be twenty-one, with a warrant and a gun, in a life where I have to run
Moonlight, there's no sun, how did it end up this way

When I open my eyes, do you know what I see
I see fire in my face, the burning leather and lace
How can I die in this place
But when I close my eyes, I see your face in the skies
I'm with you again, I can't even remember when, you weren't there

Powerful... I'm speechless. And shaking my head to a connected feeling... No words can abide me here.
