Harmful Chide

Harmful Chide

A Poem by Jessica Slatton

In the shadows I will hide
Away from the pain of your hurtful ties
Those things you say will bide no time
For the tears will come and sting these eyes

What you may see as a harmful chide
I can hear and feel it deep inside
Like a sharpened blade that rips and tears
My opened wound is stung by air

Why to my face do you hide
Hushing as I go by
Behind my back and out of view
I can still hear what you think is askew

That’s why in the shadows I will hide
But what I want is to see the light
To feel no pain as I haunt your sight
To be free of those that dowse my light
