Chapter three

Chapter three

A Chapter by CB

A boy with fiery red hair dove into the water and began swimming towards her.  He stretched his arm trying to reach her.  Sparrow lifted her own arm in response before the world darkened and went black.

"Sparrow! Sparrow! Dear god.... Wake up Sparrow!" a man yelled as he sparratically shook her with his large, rough hands. She felt an urge to open her eyes and comfort him with an, "I'm fine," but nothing came out. She tried to clear her throat and sit up, but she couldn’t. Her lungs felt like two empty, rugged balloons lying in her chest, unable to fill with air. Her hands and feet felt like they were tied down to the ground. I’m so tired. I just want to sleep, she thought, but then, what felt like a distant memory threw her into a sitting position. It turned on her brain and forced her lips to form the word: "Him," she whispered in a small raspy voice. The memory of the fiery red hair unshackled her hands and feet, letting her stand up. The memory of the girl in the reflection, who she now knew to be herself, and the boy reaching out for her, gave her a jolt of energy.  Her eyelids snapped open to see her petrified father's eyes popping out of his thoroughly rattled noggin.

"I need to find him," she said confidently to herself, ignoring her father. But she soon realized that she knew nothing about him; he was as good as gone to her. But how can I just give up now? She thought to herself sadly, After all this- a sudden jerk downward pulled her out of her thoughts.

"You have to lay down for now. The ambulance is coming." her father said falsely calm, "Does anything hurt?"

"Dad, I'm fine!" she yelled, annoyed by the whole situation. She struggled against her father to get up again.

“No you are not! You would have died in the ocean if that boy hadn’t saved you!” Sparrow’s head snapped back to look at her father.

“You saw him?” she said disbelieving.

“Who, the boy? Yeah, of course I did.  He saved your sorry little butt.  I guess he saw your head go under and he just started sprinting down the beach and dove into the water like a freaking Olympic star-”

“But you saw him?” Sparrow interrupted, anxious.

“Well, yeah. Like I said-”

“What did he look like? What was his name? Where did he go?” she demanded hurriedly. Her eyes frantically scanned the beach searching for him. She knew he wouldn’t be there but she refused to give up.

“Gosh, I don’t know. Why don’t you just give it up? You’re probably going to see him again. You can thank him then.  Lay down, the ambulance is almost here.”

Sparrow knew why she couldn’t give him up.  Because she could have sworn that right before she passed out, he had called out her name.

The story really grabs my attention. I read it out loud and it flows well but there are many lose ends and it does not feel finished. Add more to it. The story is to good to end there.
