The Last Time I Saw You

The Last Time I Saw You

A Poem by Chip
"

obviously a death

"

I remember our last time together,

You were full of glee.

A turkey fit for a whole family,

As we were all gathered that day.

Those days went by so fast,

And yet the pain came even quicker.

Could you even remember who I was?

You looked at me as if I was a stranger.

But no, I wasn’t any stranger.

I was your grandson.

As your memory faded,

I became more unknown.

I suppose as I touch your cold forehead,

I do have pain somewhere deep down,

But yet I just feel as cold as ice.

Was I just bitter?

As you got lowered six-foot under,

I’m was as expressionless as the coffin.

But why?

I lost a friend.

Now the years have passed,

And when I sit and recall the day,

The pain that was deep down rises.

Now I can really cry.

A lovely piece. The cold breath of death breathes down the neck of us all. I found only one small glitch. Second to last stanza, second line. "I'm was..." should be I was, since you're in the past tense at the particular moment.
Nicely penned!

Kindest regards and best of luck,
Savannah

It really hurts to lose someone so close. I like your style of writing in this piece, how you express your wonder and question and pain. Good writing, my friend! :)
