Embrace Your Heart

Embrace Your Heart

A Poem by Chip
"

A poem about people who are closeted - particularly those using women/men as beards.

"

I see that wedding ring on your finger,

Should feel ashamed you whimper.

Torturing people who love you,

It’s time to come out and be anew.

You’re not following your heart,

But I thought you were smart.

How can you live unhappy?

It must be so crappy.

Come out of that cramped shell,

Because you’ll further swell.

There is not a single shame,

Because you aren’t to blame.

Never give up this fight,

And embrace your right.

You can make a change,

Then we wouldn’t be so strange.

Fear does make many a man and women shame themselves, be brave and courageous! It is a hard thing to do, I cannot deny it unless I lie, but there is nothing so freeing, so uplifting, as the courage and bravery to live as you are. It is better to be hated for what you are than to be loved for what you are not after all.

But enough of my rambling on and let me attend to the poem. Again you have a lovely rhyme and here it is employed to make this serious topic somehow lighter. It does not become a joke, it remain a serious piece, but you disarm it slightly with rhyme. I enjoyed that immensely, especially because it is so different to my stentorian and bombastic style when approaching serious matters. I think yours will no doubt appeal more widely.

I enjoyed the closing lines especially, the notion of a shared identity and struggle is appealing to me, and it acknowledges the fact that as long as one suffers so does everyone.

Bravo!

This is one of the best poems I've read in a while, though I thought the second stanza was a little of a let down. But the main idea and the style of writing is very nice. Well done!
